Women's Eagles Sevens Move To 2-0 With Impressive Victory Over Ireland

USA kept their momentum rolling into the second match of the day against Ireland, looking to pick up their 11th win all-time in 15 total meetings.

Ilona Maher gave the crowd plenty to cheer for early on with a massive bump off an Irish defender before running 65m for her second try of the tournament. Shortly after, Naya Tapper showed her incredible pace to score not one, but two tries in less than two minutes to further their lead to 19 to nil.

Ireland looked to get one back before half time, but an errant pass off the lineout landed in the hands of Alev Kelter, who quickly offloaded to Kristi Kirshe who scored her second of the day. The Eagles Women’s Sevens took a comfortable 24 – 0 lead into the break.

It didn’t take long for the home side to further their lead to 31 – 0 after Cheta Emba opened the second half with a booming hand fend before touching down for her first try of the weekend.

Ireland, however, would get on the board. Katie Fitzhenry finished off a well-worked attacking try under the posts to bring the score to 31 – 7, however that’s as close as it would come.

The Eagles Women’s Sevens would finish off the match with tries from Kirshe and Heavirland to seal a 45 – 7 victory to move to 2 – 0.
